More Changes in Store for Terry
Terry career ladder has been interesting. He began as a high school chemistry teacher, moving down to central administration to work with computers. About the time we needed additional money to have Jennifer stay home with kids, he began to work up the educational ladder and eventually did a job he id not have the credential to do. Although he loved his job and the people he worked with, he began to get a hunger to be back working with kids – so now he faced the challenge of working down the ladder. We chose to face the required pay cut and change of jobs necessary to get him back working in a school. God completely came through for us. First, He prepared our heart for the necessary changes. Terry’s job at the ad building then got “cut” by the board. Terry was placed as an assistant principal where he got his training. Jennifer got a job which helped with the financial side of life. Then this past spring he interviewed for many schools and became surprised and humbled when several positions became a possibility. With the help of the deputy superintendent (Mary Thurman), he decided to become principal of Washington Elementary. This is a sweet little school. It is located a few blocks away from our house in Old Colorado City. The population is varied, but does have many kids that could have been Terry growing up. When Dr. Thurman helped Terry make the choice for Washington, she said, “I know you believe in all of these kids ability to learn in spite of their income or backgrounds. It is cool to see how much fun Terry has at school. He is committed to empowering teachers do what they do best, he believes the work should be fun and his soccer game is improving as he continues to spend recess running the field when ever he gets a chance. It is a gift to work with kids and people who love kids!

Terry outside of school enjoys volleyball, more volleyball and more volleyball. If he can find a volleyball game he will play. He continues to support the kids by being a swim official and in charge of the swim team (Very funny since he doesn’t know how to swim) and he enjoys a weekly Bible study with some other principals. Now that it is winter and Volleyball opportunities are few and far between, he is filling this time with any and all opportunities to ski. For a man who taught himself how to ski in college and really has not been on skis much as an adult, he has taken off and if he had a choice I think he’d move to a ski town to live and work just to give him more time on the slopes.
